Introduction
The Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) is an
industry recommended pathway developed for those wishing to work in
the financial planning sector. It also caters for those currently
working in the Financial Planning and Para-Planning sector who wish
to upgrade their qualifications.

What will I study during this course?
To receive your qualification in Financial Services (Financial
Planning), you must successfully complete 12 units of competency.
Topics include; conducting financial planning, analysis and
research; developing financial plans and implementing them while
complying with the financial planning code of practice; and
liaising with clients to determine their requirements and
expectations as well as providing sound financial planning
advice.

How will this help me in the workforce?
The Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) is the
standard course for financial planners to become Authorised
Representatives of an Australian Financial Services Licensee and is
a recognised course on the ASIC Training Register. It is a
requirement for Regulatory Guide 146 compliance in a variety of
areas including insurance, superannuation and investments,
securities and derivatives.
ASIC policy specifies that those providing advice to retail
clients need to be RG146 compliant. The intention of RG146 is
to ensure all providers of financial product advice are suitably
qualified.
You cannot provide advice to retail clients in any area or on
any products where you do not meet the training standards.

This course is delivered by distance education giving
you the flexibility to study when and where you choose. You receive

How long will it take to complete the course?
The Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) is

Can I complete the course faster?
You can start and finish the course at your own pace providing
you meet the assessment requirements for each unit of
competency.
You may also be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
if you have existing qualifications or skills through previous work
or study experience.
By providing evidence of competency for some of the units of
competency, you may not have to undertake these and be able to
complete your course sooner.
